The Slits - “Typical Girls”
Typical girls The Slits are anything but. Experimental tribal dub reggae femme punk? You got it. Not only that, but there’s some notable lady lineage right here.
Vocalist Ari-Up and drummer Pamolive founded the band after meeting at a Patti Smith show, Pamolive later leaving the band becoming a member of all-lady post-punk band, The Raincoats. Their replacement drummer (who uh, actually was “with penis”) then became a permanent member of Siouxsie & the Banshees (Siouxsie is very much without penis). Even if you’ve never heard of The Slits, the cover art of the album “Typical Girls” is from, Cut has a reputation that preceeds itself. Basically, the point I’m trying to get to is that The Slits are very important.
